Clothes Line, Polarizers and Reverse Lens Macro.

Mmmm, there's nothing quite like hangin' your clothes out on a clothes line! Somehow, the sun has a way of making things feel really clean and fresh!
The lilacs are blooming at our place now. The aroma is really strong, you can smell it on the other side of the house. Our Grandma from California really likes lilacs, so it was just in time to bloom!
Apparently there is going to be a Trader Joe's in Boulder and Denver. I knew of the Boulder one, but not the Denver one, which means it will be even closer to drive to. Our Grandpa from California worked at TJ for a long time, so it's a popular store in our family.
The weather has been phenomenal! On our last day of work for this week, it rained really heavy, not very much, it was a fairly short rain, but it poured.

I used a polarizer filter to make the sky really rich. When I climbed up on top of the shed, our cows kept looking up there like "Hey, what are you doing up there? I want up there!" They were mooing and looking up at me the whole time.

Again, I used a polarizer to make the sky look a bit darker, giving it sort of a dark, moody look.

For this shot, I used reverse lens macro to get even closer to my subject.

Green Field, Rabbit Problems and Birds

Well, my brother and I went back to work today. Our boss hired some men to take a lot of the scrap away, so that took a huge load of our backs. It sounds as though, we'll be doing some fencing too.
I think we have a barn swallow starting a nest in our cow shed. We keep seeing it fly up to a beam just underneath the roof.
So, this year, do any of you have an extreme rabbit problem? We have quite a lot of them here, and there are tons at our job too. Our boss does not like them at all!
I hope we get some more rain soon! It would be really great for our grass, so we can graze our animals again.

Our friends keep their dog on a leash, so she won't do anything she might regret afterwards ;)

Bees and Dandelions.

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the bees are busy being bees! We have tons of dandelions in our yard. The bees are all over them though.
Today were going to clean our garage, because with all the stuff my brother and I have brought home, it's getting a little full. We found this angle iron that is so heavy, that it takes two of us to pick it up!

Does anyone know what flower this is? I used to know, but I don't anymore. We have a lot of them at our place.

Summer Job, Chop saw's and Steel.

This week my brother and I got a summer job! We do stuff like, mowing and weed whacking etc. The building used to be a bleachers maker, but they went out of business, so the man who now owns it, has us doing stuff to get it cleaned up and presentable.
He has all this steel and aluminum laying around for scrap. The steel doesn't fetch much in the scrap world, about $100 for 1 ton.
So I asked if it was ok if I took some steel bar stock for welding, and he said that any steel we find we want, we can have! It's a huge blessing, to get all this steel for welding! He also had these old tools from the previous company, that they just left there. So they put them in a pile ready for scrap, and he said if we saw anything in there we wanted, we were free to take it. So we came home with a DeWalt chop saw, lots of bar stock, and buckets of self tapping screws and lag bolts. We have to clean up the chop saw, because all these aluminum shavings are stuck on it with cutting oil. After we finish cleaning it up, he's going to give us a job through the rest of summer, to maintain it.
Anyway, enough jabbering! I took these photo's a few weeks ago.

A Day at our Granparents

More photo's of our day at our Grandparents.

I'll bet we filled close to 25 bags of just pine needles and leaves from their front yard! It's amazing how little it looks when it's just on the ground, but when you bag it, the pile of bags is huge.

Rain, Honey and Qwirkles.

We, just had one of the best rains so far! It rained for quite a long time in the evening, then just drizzled all night! Everything smelled so fresh this morning! Right now its sprinkling.
The other day we were at our Grandparents house, and we played a game right before dinner called "Qwirkle",  it's a really fun game. My brother won the round with seven Qwirkles.
After dinner we watched a movie called "The Hanoi Hilton", which was about P.O.W.'s during Vietnam. It was really good. A little sad, but definitely good.

My brother harvested 10 pounds of honey from one of his hives. For some reason the hive had died during winter, so he harvested the honey. They didn't die of starvation, we know that much. We aren't quite sure what happened. The honey has the pollen in it, so it is really light colored, and rich.
